Starring: Anne Hathaway, Rosemarie DeWitt
Director: Jonathan Demm
Rachel Getting Married tells the story of Kym (Hathaway) – a girl who is given leave from rehab to see “Rachel getting married” – her sister Rachel, that is (DeWitt). Kym is self absorbed and petulant: a trait that Rachel cannot deal with, especially with their father indulging Kym in her childish behaviour. What ensues is awkward dinners, shouting matches and tense and touching moments showing how a whole family is affected by one addiction.
This movie is good. It is. We found it a very interesting unique, almost documentary like portrayal of a family, though we must admit it was at time self-indulgent and assumed the audience cared more about them then they probably did. Anne Hathaway was brilliant. Subtle and true, we forgot we were watching an actress. If you like you films with more of kick, stay away. But it’s worth checking out.
What did we learn from this movie?
All’s fair in love and dishwasher packing war. THIS MOVIE GETS:

The reason we haven’t posted in a while is because we’ve been in…. wait for it… NEW YORK. (don’t cha just love our little adventures?)
It was a whole lotta awesome, already can’t wait for the next trip out there. The only down side is we didn’t meet Edward Norton. *Sigh* There’s always next time, right?
So here are a few pics, and keep your eyes open for reviews of Revolutionary Road, Doubt, The International and others.
OMG is that? could it be? YES it’s Leo DiCaprio looking a little… well… waxy if you ask me.
Oh, hi. It’s Sway from MTV. And no, this one ain’t a wax figure.
If you remember, actor/hot guy Joaquin Phoenix announced last year that he would be retiring from movies and starting a new career as a musician. Well, he kicked off his campaign to be a rapper by performing this past weekend to a packed Las Vegas club. Now, we personally didn’t think Joaquin was that bad, (check out his swagger, y’all), but who woulda thought ole Joaq could spit lyrics? (well, he did give us a lil taste in his latest film Two Lovers reviewed here). Check him out!
NOTE: is that Casey Affleck filming that we can see?
Oh, and here’s Joaquin falling off the stage. Dangerously funny, we warn you.
This makes us think: what should Joaquin’s rap name be? Cast your vote, or comment with you own suggestions!
It is common knowledge that we are Ed Norton and Colin Farrell worshippers fans. We also love ourselves a lil Joe Buck. So of course “Pride and Glory” was a point of excitement for us. So imagine our disgust at the fact that at only after two weeks of its release date, P&G is not showing in any London cinemas. None. Why is that?
British readers can verify, “P&G” was constantly advertised on telly and you couldn’t sit at a train station or pass a billboard without seeing Edward and Colin’s pretty faces. So why on earth would they advertise it to death and then yank it after only two weeks? Not only that, but it wasn’t even showing in all the major cinemas in London from the beginning.
So, the long and short of it, is that we have still not seen “Pride and Glory”. Wonder how long we’ll have to wait for the DVD release?
Just a quick one to say Hollywood/LA was fantastic. So many interesting characters and lovely people. We recommend going to see the celebs houses – it’s so surreal. Cutest house goes to…. Leo DiCaprio.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s House (check the solar panels in the middle)
Seriously, we must have gone everywhere and met everyone. A quick hello to the producers, actors, directors and writers that we met, yall were so wacky! (And thanks for all the great advice)
We recommend:
Cafe 101
ARCLight Cinema
Bubba Gump’s Shrimp (?)
Downtown
Olvera St.
The “Dr. Phil” Show (although the paparazzi kept taking pics of Dre outside Paramount Studios)
Ok, so we know it’s been like, a month since we were on here but things have been pretty hectic what with going to LA, the London Film Festival and moving house.
But we’re back now, ready to squeeze out all that Movie Juice.
