DVD Review: “The Illusionist”

DIRECTOR: Neil Burger
STARRING: Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel

“The Illusionist” takes a look at magician, Eisenheim – arguably the David Blaine of his time. While it’s hard to explain exactly what happens in this movie, it didn’t feel like that whilst watching it. It takes you on a fairytale like story, aided by the beautiful cinematography and picturesque surroundings. Ultimately, it’s a love story, but one that makes you gasp at times and question reality.

We liked this film, we just didn’t love it. We found ourselves waiting for the next scene featuring Ed Norton. Also, the ending didn’t quite deliver the shock it intended (re-enforced by the fact our mum predicted it 20 minutes into the movie).

What did we learn from this movie?
Apparently they all had English accents in 20th century Vienna.
If you wear a fake beard, no one will recognise you.
